It turned out that I couldn't use my small 80 f6 apochromat for almost a month, so I took out and "dusted off" my old 120 f8.3 achromat.
It was set aside because it shows such strong chromatic aberration that it is far from ideal for photography.
Then I remembered that when I bought the mono camera last summer, I planned to try the achromat with it as well, to see if the stars didn't blow up. So it was a great opportunity for the test.
I was wrong in RGB. The pictures taken with the red and green filters are amazing, but the brighter stars in the blue filter pictures are the size of watermelons
.
Then I almost put the tube away in frustration when I remembered the narrowband (4nm) filters. Fortunately, a clear night came, so I looked out for the Tadpole Nebula IC410, which is currently visible from our garden for 9 hours. I divided this time between the Ha, Sii and Oiii filters.
Unfortunately, I had to discard 10 images from the Ha and Sii images due to clouds and wires spanning over part of the garden, so the total exposure time was just over 7 hours, but finally putting the image together, I happily concluded that an achromat can be also good for photography, with the right tools and compromises.
