Description

Andromeda galaxy (M31) from our garden in light-polluted Frankfurt. The image also features two dwarf elliptical galaxies that are satellites of the famous spiral parent: M110 slightly to the right and above Andromeda, as well as M32 which is the bright star-like object below M31. All three objects are about 2.6 million lightyears away. Another noteworthy object is Nu Andromedae (HIP 3881) in the bottom left corner, which is a binary star system some 620 lightyears away and the top-most object defining the constellation of Andromeda high in the eastern sky.
