Description

NGC 457 (also known as the Owl Cluster, The ET Cluster, Kachina Doll Cluster, or the Skiing Cluster) is an open star cluster in the constellation Cassiopeia. At an estimated age of 21 million years, the cluster lies between 8,000 to 10,000 light years away in the Perseus arm of the Milky Way. The large gap in the dust clouds of the Milky Way allow a window through Cassiopeia to look through our Orion arm and see into the next outer arm, Perseus.
