Description

NGC 1499 The California Nebula is an emission nebula located approximately 1000 ly from Earth in the Perseus constellation.

It is called the California Nebula due to the shape revealed by long exposure imaging, which resembles the shape of the state of California.

The Ha/Hb emission from this nebula are due to the high energy emissions from the nearby type O7 star, Xi Persei (Menkib).

This is a relatively short integration of only 5 exposures for a total integration of time of approximately 30 minutes.
