Description

Here is a full reprocess of yesterdays data - appears my (new) UHD monitor has no correlation between display brightness and that of the saved file. Back on my old monitor which means I can see what I intended and process closer to what I intended.

Here is my first look and attempt at any sort of open cluster, the rarely imaged NGC 1342.

This open cluster sits in some very dim dark nebula which and I have tried to enhance these without being too aggressive. I have tried to be delicate but not always my forte!

Rev B - Finishing touches for now. This one has been a headache maker!

Rev C - Same as Rev B but with ICC profile embedded - reflects colour I want but is making background to dark. I will let you all decide which you like best

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NGC 1342 contains 50 to 100 stars with no concentrated centre. With an apparent diameter of 15 arc-minutes across, the cluster is dominated by multiple magnitude 8, 9 and 10 stars. NGC 1342 lies at a distance of 1,170 light-years away and is estimated to be fairly young at only 450 million years-old. The cluster slightly overlaps the bright nebulae LDN 718 and 719 and as indicated by the traces of nebulosity in the image above. Characterized with a magnitude of 6.7, NGC 1342 was discovered by William Herschel in 1799. - Web annotated
