Description

NGC 7822 is an emission nebula and star forming region 3,000 light years distant in the direction of the constellation Cepheus. The rugged skyscape contains many condensations including pillars and globules.

This image was captured under high desert skies near Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA with a telescope of 12" aperture at f/4.5 and an 8-megapixel electrically-cooled CCD camera. This tri-colored image was taken through hydrogen-alpha (green), oxygen-III (blue), and Sulfur-II (red) filters. Total exposure was 340 minutes.
