Description

NGC 2903 is a bright galaxy in Leo that shines at an overall magnitude of 8.9 and spans 12.6'. It is one of the brighter galaxies that Charles Messier might have included in his list, but did not. This image was acquired with some luminance data from a green/yellow zone on a really fine night with excellent seeing, with RGB data from a gray zone on a night of average seeing. The image was composed in LRGB mode, with the luminance channel being composed of both natural and synthetic luminance.

The second revision has a little less blue in the outer arms of the galaxy.

The third revision simply has the color saturation turned down. It was the overwhelming favorite when I posted a comparison with the second revision on Cloudy Nights.
