Description

"Montes Apenninus"

Named after the Apennine Mountains in Italy. Their formation dates back 3.9 billion years. With peaks over 5 km high, this is the most impressive mountain range visible on the Moon, and also home to the landing site of Apollo 15.

The largest crater to the north is Archimides. (50.4 miles in diameter)

The second largest at the top of the image is Aristillus. (34.2 miles in diameter)

The smallest of the 3 craters is Autolycus. (24.2 miles in diameter)
