This is a choice sample crop from a 4 panel mosaic of the Sharpless 171 region taken with a ASI294MM Pro using Ha, Sii, & Oiii 6nm Max FR 2" Astronomik filters on a RASA 8 mounted to a CEM40-NUNC mount furnished with a NUNC mini computer for data acquisition.

NINA to acquire 4 sets, 1 set for each panel, 30 to 60 x 300s images @ -10c & 120g, 1x1 bin. ~95% were usable for Ha and Oiii, only ~50% were fit from the Sii filter.

Blink / Subframe Select, Calibrated (100 Dark, 60 Flat, 100 Bias), Star Aligned all images with PixInsight. Used the Normalized Scale Gradient for integration.

DBE each frame, Star Aligned with Mosaic Union to generate template for Star Alignment, both panels were 'matched' images to template. Registered panels were dnaLinearfit prior to GMM. Repeated the Mosaic Union to GMM to combine the 2 panel mosaics for a 4 panel mosaic of each channel.

For Ha, Sii, & Oiii channels: Cropped, DBE, TGV, MMT (& duplicated the Ha here for the Lum), EZ Soft Stretch, StarNet for star removal, and channel combined using PixelMath*. The duplicated Ha -> Lum was Mask Stretched, HDR, LHT, MMT, EZStar Reduction, TGVDenoise, and LRGB Combined with the PixelMath SHO image.

Image was Curves modified w/ masks, Resampled, and Annotated.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
