Description

Since I procured my CG5, I haven't used my NexStar mount much, perhaps once a month for a public event involving Lunar observation, which does not require the precision of an equatorial mount.

However, I had my NexStar 8SE set up at a local observatory to allow a group of photography students the chance to take lunar photos of the rapidly approaching "Supermoon," and after they left I found Orion sitting fairly high above the horizon. I was only able to manage about 15" exposures using an Alt / Az system but was surprised by how bright each sub was - its been a few months since I have seen this nebula, I forgot how bright it was.

All in all, I am pleased with how this image - which is a product of no planning, no special effort on proper focusing or framing - turned out. I will certainly revisit this object next month when Orion stars to rise earlier in the evening.
