Description

Taken under the darker skies of northern Scottsdale, AZ, this is a widefield experiment with a 92mm APO refractor and dedicated reducer which fed light to a ZWO full frame one shot color, cooled, astro camera.   This image train provided a wide enough field to capture the Horsehead and Flame nebulae together with Casper the Friendly Ghost (M78).  I chose M78 because the field was not quite wide enough to capture Horsehead, Flame, and the Orion Nebula together.   The frames were captured during Thanksgiving vacation using a very portable Rainbow RST-135E mount.  I used PixInsight and Photoshop to process the images after I returned home.   I used a 60mm guide scope for about half of the collection.   I also experimented with no guiding for these relatively short exposures - this was made possible by getting an accurate polar alignment and the encoders that are in the mount.
