Description

41P/Tuttle–Giacobini–Kresák is a 1.4 km diameter periodic comet soaring in our solar system with an apparent magnitude of 7 when it reaches it’s closest to Earth at 21,000,000 km on April 1st, 2017. Currently placed in the Constellation border between Cancer and Leo, it was discovered originally by Horace Tuttle in 1858 and then re-discovered independently by Michel Giacobini in 1907 and then again by L’ubor Kresák in 1951. It belongs to the Jupiter-family of comets, as their elliptical orbital period around the sun is less than 20 years and within the orbit of Jupiter. To take this astrophoto, I had to guide on the stars and expose for four hours in order to reveal it’s icy dust trail caused by it’s differential speed. I always wanted to catch a comet
