Description

I finally had a clear sky. However I was racing the Full Moon rising and didn't have a lot of time

to image. I decided to image M46 because I've never imaged this object before. I don't image

many Open Star Clusters. I've imaged almost all of the Globular Star Clusters in the Messier catalog but for some reason I felt most of the Open Clusters did not look like much. However

I've changed my opinion concerning that and now really enjoy the Open Clusters. As usual when

I get in a hurry I have problems and tonight was no exception. I had framing problems, focus

problems, and tracking problems. I intended in taking at least 40 light frames. However the

gear and shaft on the declination tracking motor hung up on another part of the mount and

caused star trailing on more than half of my images. Only 17 of my images were usable and even some of those were questionable. I could not reposition the mount and take more images

because the Moon was high enough to where it was washing out the sky. However with all of that said I did get an image and I'm pleased with that. This is my first attempt at imaging M46.

Please enjoy.
