Description

The Sun setting over Kitt Peak National Observatory as seen from the Catalina Mountain range.

A few Sunspots are visible on the left of the disk of the Sun and a beginning of a green rim can be spotted at the top edge of our star.

The silhouette of the mountain shows many of the telescopes present on that summit.

At the far right is visible the 4.0m Nicholas U. Mayall Telescope, also the biggest one on that peak.

At the far left, the unusual shape of the McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope.

The summit of Kitt Peak was about 93.4 km away from the point where this picture was taken.
