Description

All stars visible as bright dots in this image (including those of the open cluster NGC 6939)

belong to our galaxy,...all stars except the one indicated by the arrow: it is located in NGC 6946,

a galaxy at a distance of 22 million light years, and is visible only because, like 'Supernova',

exploded with a devastating fury of inconceivable power...,

finding himself potentially in the state of becoming, for a short time,

brighter than all the other stars of that galaxy put together!

S&T: "the 10th supernova found in this explosion-rich galaxy in the past century" (1917-2017),

"reaffirming its reputation for fireworks of the grandest kind".
