Description

Well, just like everyone else at one point or another, I was bitten with the mosaic bug a few months ago.  I set out to do a mosaic of some of the galaxies in the Virgo Cluster.  I was able to capture eight panels over three nights (one night's subs all had to be scrapped because I had left the wrong bin settings in the camera).  The other thing I failed to account for is how terrible the weather is here in Chicago.  After capturing some Lum subs between clouds on two nights then it was clouds for about a month.  Once it finally cleared up my target was way past the Meridian and on the way down once it got dark.

When I attempted to process the Lum subs that I did get I found that my computer is not up to the task to stitch all of these panels together.  Not only was PI super slow it also crashed a couple of times (maybe not enough memory or processor too slow?) but I also don't really know how to make mosaics in PI, you can clearly see the edges of the panels on some of the galaxies an bright stars.

I don't know whether I will be attempting to fix the project and continue it next year or not, it may be way easier to get just a 60mm scope instead :-).  For now it belongs as an Astro-blooper.
