Description

The Rosette Nebula is a massive emission nebula, roughly 130 light years across. At 5,200 light years from Earth, it would appear about five times larger than the full moon if we could see it with the naked eye, which we can’t. The radiation from the hot young stars at its center generate a stellar wind of charged gas particles that have blown the cosmic gases out of its core and excited the surrounding hydrogen gas, causing it to glow and resemble a rose. The more edgy amateur astronomers out there call it the skull nebula. Can you see the skull?

Description: An "art composite" purely for fun and just to demonstrate why some call it the Skull Nebula. Freaked myself out a little bit on this one.
