Description

All shapes and sizes - that's what planetary nebulae come in, and the "Dumbbell" is certainly a fine example of the variety. The 10,000 year-old ejection remnant is an eye into the future of our own star, some 4.5 billion years hence. Located some 1,350 light years away, M-27's ever-expanding girth currently sits at ~1.45 light years.
