Description

SH2-290 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Cancer. Its distance from us is estimated at about 2 000 light years. Its size on the night sky is 16.2x15.5 arcmin or half the size of the Moon. Other designations of this object are ARO135, Abell 31, PK 219+31.1, PN G219.1+31.2. With its visual magnitude of +12 it is very faint.

SH2-290 is one of the largest PN that we can observe.

Also SH2-290 is one of the last narrowband targets that one can image during the Winter months after all the interesting targets in the Milky Way start to approach the horizon.

And this is how I acquired my data for this image. Almost every imaging session during Autumn and Winter in the past two years ended with my scope targeting this PN. It is very faint. I am now happy how the data turned out.

Revision D is interesting:

It shows a faint smudge which I think is some sort of nebula as well. In my opinion it is not an artifact from a star or something else as there are no bright stars in the vicinity. I tried to find in the registers but I was unable to do so. If you can, can you please help to identify it.

Thank in advance!

CS,
Ivan
