Description

IC 410 or Sharpless 2-236 is an emission nebula in Auriga. In the centre is the star cluster NGC 1893 discovered by John Herschel (son of William Herschel) in 1827.

It is the star cluster that shapes the nebula as radiation from the cluster blows gas from the center of the nebula. Most spectacular are the tadpoles lower right, but it is obvious that many of the smaller filaments have their tails directed from the center of the star cluster.

At the top of the filaments there is probably something with a large mass, maybe formation of new stars.

The nebula is about 12000 Ly away and the tadpoles are about 10 Ly long.
