Description

The northern half of Mare Imbrium, Sea of Showers, from Sinus Iridum and Plato on the left (west) to Vallis Alpes and Cassini at top (north) and Archimedes to the east.

Estimated at 4 billion years old, Imbrium is thought to have been gouged by the impact of a 250 km planetoid.

Its outer rim is defined by Montes Jura in the west, Montes Alpes at north and Montes Caucasus in the east. An arc of isolated mountains on the lava plain, from Montes Recti (Straight Range) in the west, Montes Teneriffe in the north and Montes Spitzbergen in the east near Archimedes appears to trace an inner impact uplift ring.

Best 600 of 3000 frames.
