IC 1805 the Heart Nebula

I've been wanting to try and image IC 1805 for a while but just never got around to it. So last night I decided to try and image this object. I couldn't see

this object in an eyepiece so I had to point my red dot finder to where I thought the object was. I

took a test image but could not see anything. I checked the sky chart again and pointed my

red dot finder where I thought the object should be again. I took another test image and this time

I could see some red nebulosity. However I could not really make out a shape. I decided that I

would continue imaging just to see what I got when I did my processing. As it turned out I

did have IC 1805 in my field of view but I only had part of this object. To be honest I had no

idea just how large this object is. My AT72ED refractor has the widest field of view of any of my scopes. Even if I had managed to have better framing it would have been a tight fit getting

all of this object in the field of view. I really thought that it would be possible to image both

the Heart Nebula and Soul Nebula in the same field of view with my AT72ED. I guess I need

to research my targets a little more so I can determine if it will be possible to image the object

with the scope I intend to use for the imaging. Anyway I debated whether or not to post this

image since it did not completely depict the Heart Nebula but finally decided that it was still an

interesting image. This was a difficult object to process because part of the nebula was very

dense and bright. However most of the nebula was extremely dim. If I stretched the data

enough to bring out this dim nebulosity then this blew out the dense brighter part of the

nebula and also the star field. It was a tedious process to say the least. With all of that said

please enjoy my first attempt at imaging IC 1805 the Heart Nebula.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
