Another clear sky. I decided that I would try and image the Iris Nebula because I've

never imaged it before. I attempted to locate this object but could not see it in my eyepiece.

I checked my star chart and then placed my red dot finder on my scope where I thought

the object should be. I took a test image and as luck would have it NGC 7023 was in the field

of view but right on the edge of the image. I had to move my the scope three times and take three

test images until I had the object framed where I wanted it. I did manage to get an image but

it's not great. With that said I'm pleased with my image because to be honest I didn't think

that it would be possible to even get an image using my method of imaging. The prize when

imaging this object is not the Iris Nebula. Instead it's the black/dark nebulosity that surrounds

this object. I had hoped to capture more of this dark nebulosity but even though I didn't

I will still take this image and be happy with it. Please enjoy my first image of NGC 7023

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
