Description

NGC 891 is a galaxy in the constellation Andromeda at a distance of about 27 million light-years with a magnitude of 10.8. She is only seen "edge on" for us, and is often referred to as "Silver Sliver" because of her looks. A long, distinct band of dust is clearly visible in the middle.
The bright star HD 14771 with a visual magnitude of 6.7 can be seen prominently in the image to the right of NGC 891. In contrast to the distant galaxy, it is "only" 3500 ly away, so it is by no means a neighbor of NGC 891, as the image might suggest.
