Description

Santa brought me a new mount, the iOptron CEM25P Center Balance Mount. I was anxious to

get outside to try and learn how to operate the mount and hand controller. I've been looking

at this mount for a while and I wanted a mount just for my AT72ED Refractor. It is light compared

to my other mounts. I've been looking for some remote imaging sites away from my light polluted

back yard and after looking at several mounts I decided that the CEM25P would best suit my needs.

It is very portable. Because of a very bright half Moon and clouds I was limited as to what I

could image. The constellation Orion seemed to be free of clouds and was about as far away

from the Moon as I could get. I chose to image M42 because it is a bright object. As it turned out

when I examined my light frames there were thin, hazy clouds around the constellation Orion.

It took me a little while to learn how to work the mount and the hand controller. This mount

is unique and definitely a departure from my German Equatorial mounts. However I like the

mount and it was fun to use. Not to mention that it was much easier to haul outside and back

inside at the end of my imaging session. I did get an image of M42. It is probably not my best

image of M42 but I am pleased with the image. I think sky conditions prevented me from

capturing some of the fainter nebulosity surrounding this object. With all of that said please

enjoy my latest image of M42.
