Description

Good afternoon everyone! Today's image is The Monkey Head Nebula, catalogued as NGC 2174 and NGC 2175. The Monkey Head Nebula is a hydrogen 2 emission nebula that can be found in the constellation Orion 6400 light years from Earth. The blue and blue white stars in this image were likely formed from the gas in this stellar nursery, and because of their size, many of the brightest stars in the nebula will go through their entire fuel supplies rather quickly, with some of the largest stars only lasting for a few hundred million years, compared to the life span of billions of years for smaller stars like our own Sun. I hope you like today's image, be sure to check back tomorrow for a new image! Clear Skies!
