Description

The sky was dark and the air was clear - galaxy time! I'm getting good at finding my target and getting the guiding to work well, so I set it up quickly and set my computer to ask my camera to do 20 exposures of four minutes each, and left it all unattended for an hour. When I came back the bloody moon was up! I had only one proper dark exposure. I kept going though, and did some more exposures, because I thought maybe I could remove the moonlight in lightroom. No such luck. The long streams of stars that form the antennae are not visible unless I really force the histogram, and it doesn't look good. Better to embrace the moonlight and settle for the heart shape of the distorted galactic cores. An awesome burst of star formation is evident by the blue hue of freshly-minted blue supergiant stars.
