Description

It seems we are catching up on rain here in Southern California this month. While we greatly need it, astrophotography has been impossible. Last night, however, there was a sudden break. Knowing ahead of time that seeing would be iffy and breezy conditions likely, I decided to chance it and trek out to Red Rock Canyon State Park. As expected, my Orion 10” Astrograph caught the wind like a sail and most of my subs were destroyed. Still, 16 subs survived the wind, and I have my first test result with the Paracorr Type 2. Despite everything, I think the image quality is improved compared to the Baader Mark III MPCC Coma Corrector, especially the star field. I expect it will do better with more data on a clear, calm night. I am looking forward to imaging galaxies in the coming months with the Tele Vue Paracorr Type 2.

Description: Pushing the limit. I needed a guide scope with a longer focal length (and heavier) to properly guide with the Paracorr Type 2, which increases my Newtonian's FL to 1150mm. Right now, I think I am perilously close to the weight limit of my Orion Atlas Pro!
