Description

This edge-on spiral is a beauty, approximately 40 Mly distant in Coma Berenices. The central bulge is bisected by prominent dust lanes that yield to blue tones of new star formation at the outer edges of the disk (likely a result of interaction between one of two satellite galaxies). Data from Spitzer indicates the Needle likely has a central bar as well as a pseudo bulge and inner ring.

Had to wait quite a while to gather all the data on this one. It's been tough to get clear skies with the slow transition to spring in New England. I'm also fighting a lot of new light pollution thanks to some new neighbors that very much like their back yard flood lights so I increased the integration time.
