Made a copy of image to create a semi-starless version:
Removed stars using a StarMask and several iterations of MultiscaleMediumTransform and MorphologicalTransformation->CurvesTransformation

Combined the starless version into the image as a luminance layer (40% opacity) using luminosity layer blending style.

LocalHistogramEqualization->HistogramTransformation->SCNR green->CurvesTransformation for slight saturation boost->ColorSaturation tool for specific saturation boosts of galaxy->one final CurvesTransformation->Resampled to 50% for web posting.
