Description

Deepest image I have taken so far with my new ASI294MC Pro camera. IC 983 is the large SBbc barred spiral with the much smaller S0 elliptical IC982 at the end of one of IC 983's arms, reminiscent of M51. Lots nebulous blue knots can be seen in the bigger spiral along with the short bar. Hundreds of faint galaxies most fainter the 22nd magnitude can be seen scattered behind the galaxy. In fact, the majority of the fuzzy dots in the image are galaxies, not stars. The fan shaped diffraction spikes around the star adjacent to IC983 are caused by field rotation as my dob tracked the target during the nearly 36 minutes of total integration time used to acquire this image while I took a coffee break at the star party I was attending. The image is cropped to about half the dimensions of the original image to zero in on the target of interest.

Description: Reworked with Fitswork and more know-how on my part to get better contrast and color balance. Uncropped it to show multiple background galaxy clusters. Left a corner lost to image rotation.
