Description

The Tulip Nebula (Sh2-101) is a bright emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus. The brighter (lower) of the two stars at the end of the right petal of the Tulip is the galactic X-ray source and black hole candidate Cygnus X-1. Jets radiating from the accretion disk of the black hole is colliding with the interstellar material to form the curved shock front (in blue) at the upper right of the Tulip.

This is an Ha/OIII bi-color image with Ha mapped to red and OIII to blue. Green is 25% Ha and 75% OIII. Star colors were obtained through separate RGB broadband filters.
