Description

I observed this galaxy pair on my third night at a dark sky site in Oregon. What a pleasure. Its the first dark sky I have seen for a couple of months - the entire Northwester U.S. spent half its summer smoked out by dozens of wildfires from California all the way up to British Columbia. It was really a terrible summer for observing.

Here we see a pair of similarly sized spiral galaxies that both appear to be near edge-on barred spirals. IC1727 looks a bit disrupted, so I think these guys may be due for increased gravitationally interaction. Each is full of bright young blue star clusters. I also really like the three randomly scattered distant edge-on galaxies, they are PGC catalog galaxies, PGC 1811565, PGC 6632 and PGC 1803573, from left to right in the image.
