Description

Object: M33

Constellation: Triangulum

Distance: 2.3 Million Light-Years

Magnitude: 5.7

Comments: M33, the Pinwheel Galaxy, also known as the Triangulum Galaxy is a face-on galaxy approximately 2.3 Million Light-Years distant. It can be seen in binoculars as a faint glow as its light is spread out over a large field of view. M33 is a member of the local group of galaxies and is the thrid largest at approximately 50,000 light-years in diameter. it is thought to be a satellite galaxy to M31, the Andromeda Galaxy. Its galactic arms appear turbulent with many HII regions glowing in red, and hot young blue star clusters. For a more detailed description of this object see Rob Gendler's essay HERE
