Description

This is Melotte 15. It is a squiggly(that's the scientific term) object at the center of the great Heart Nebula (IC1805). Cosmic clouds of gas and dust inhabit the center of this star forming region. This image spans about 40 light years across. Melotte 15 is only about 1.5 million years old. I have used emission filters in this image to bring out the ionized Hydrogen, Sulfur and Oxygen atoms. This object sits near Cassiopeia at about 7500 Light Years away.
