Description

Star Center from Panel 13 of my 15 Panel Andromeda Mosaic. Data Acquired over the last three months from MaRIO (Marathon Astronomical Remote Imaging Observatory).

A labor of love and great effort. Such tremendous heavens require no less.

Research taken from various online sources and my #1 source for putting together mosaics- Sky Safari!

Panel 13 HD 4727 TYC2801-2090-1

Nu Andromeda. The “Gateway to Andromeda”.

Roughly 680 light years from our Solar System. A 4.52 magnitude double star made up of a luminous class B5 dwarf and a much fainter star of class F8 that is not much different from our Sun. Spectroscopy reveals that the two stars orbit quickly taking merely 4.28 days to make a full orbit. The larger, brighter Class B star shines at an output of 1700 times that of our Sun.

The larger star rotates at 80 km/s while the smaller one roared at 11 km/s. These figures imply that the two are tidally synchronized with one star always pointing at the other other one.

At an age of 80 million years, the larger B5 star is just about to finish fusing it’s internal hydrogen and is preparing to become a red giant. As it grows it will encounter its smaller F8 companion and will transfer its mass to the larger B5 star, possibly absorbing the F8 star.
