Description

NGC 3521, located in Leo, is about 35 million light-years from Earth. It is about 50,000 light-years long, with a bright and compact core and a detailed spiral arm structure. The most prominent feature of NGC 3521 is that its long spiral arms are dotted with a large number of star-forming regions and are covered with the veins of dust clouds. Its irregular spiral arms make NGC 3521 a typical representative of flocculent spiral galaxies. The spiral arms of these galaxies are blurred, in sharp contrast to those of spiral galaxies with clear spiral arms.
