Description

The Corona Australis star forming region imaged during my vacation in La Palma (Canary Islands) using my little SW 130/650 Newtonian reflector (October 2018)

NGC 6726/6727 and IC 4812 are blue reflection nebulae, which reflects the light of the embedded stars.

NGC 6729 is a reflection/emission nebula located some 424 light-years away.

Bernes 157 is dark nebula some 520 light years distant. It is so dense that it obscures the stars behind it.

Herbig-Haro objects are small arcs of glowing gas. They originate as energetic outflows from young stars that are smashing into the surrounding gas and creating shock waves. These shocks cause the gas to shine.

The globular cluster NGC 6723 appears to be just outside Corona Australis in the constellation Sagittarius, but lies nearly 30 000 light-years away, far beyond the Corona Australis dust cloud.
