Description

WinJUPOS composite of three 180 second exposures taken at dusk on 14 Sep 2018 (capture midpoint is at 6:30 pm with sunset taking place at 5:54 pm). Half an hour imaging session between 6:14 and 6:44 pm local Canberra time. The three stacks combined into this image cover 12 minutes elapsed time.

I wanted to compare derotation of non-drizzle and drizzle stacks to see if additional detail will be present in the latter set (bottom row). It's clear that increased image scale helps greatly with identification of low contrast albedo features across the sub-20 arc second planetary disk.

Solis Lacus, Olympus Mons and Tharsis Ridge are prominent with SPC exhibiting interesting purple fringing to the south. Tried to bring out fine detail across the cap itself by adjusting exposure in that region (wispy blue features). There's also a hint of high latitude polar cloud near the western limb. Straight line feature intersecting 'the eye of Mars' is reminiscent of Percival Lowell's canal renderings.

Edge rind artefact treated with Photoshop mask for additional aesthetics, northern orientation at left. Have a large backlog of Mars data to process from mid September but Fri 14th was definitely the best seeing wise.
