Description

This is my longest Mars animation so far - 15 WinJUPOS composites covering 45 minutes of nearly continuous imaging on 20 Sep 2018. Spring evenings proved to be very fruitful for astronomy in Canberra with many evenings of steady seeing. The movie combines recordings made between 6:13 and 7:15 pm local time.

There was some high level cirrus around with the planet in close proximity to waxing gibbous Moon (5 degrees). Mars has shrunk by half a second again from 17 Sep.

In the southern hemisphere Argyre Basin has just crossed the terminator, Galle and Lowell craters flanking it on each side (left and right respectively). SPC leaves behind mottled purple area as it recedes. Blue clouds stretch into Mare Acidalium in high northern latitudes. Chryse, Mare Erythraeum and Aurorae Sinus are also on view.

Animation frame exposure and colour aligned with earlier captures that month.
