Description

This object, known as both Arp 210 and NGC 1569, is a nearby starburst galaxy located 10 million light years away in the constellation of Camelopardalis. In fact, it is the nearest starburst galaxy to us. The dwarf irregular galaxy is undergoing a burst of star formation likely due to interaction with other nearby galaxies in the IC 342 galaxy group. It is undergoing star formation at a rate 10 times that of the Milky Way. This is one of the few galaxies I have imaged which has an overall reddish tint.

This galaxy is smaller than the Small Magellanic Cloud, but brighter than both it and the Large Magellanic Cloud. The two bright white "stars" at the center of the galaxy are actually SSCs (Super Star Clusters). Each cluster contains more than a million stars.
