Description

With this image I wanted to capture two very different objects of the deep sky. Barnard 150, or Seahorse Nebula, is a dark molecular cloud in the middle of the frame, totally not transparent to any visible light from background stars. Sh2-129, also known as the Flying Bat Nebula, is the glowing red emission nebula, and actually only a part of it, one of the "wings", fits in the image on the right side.

It was a very difficult task for me to process the data, as this part of the sky is close to the Galaxy plane and contains lots of stars, which totally dominates the image when captured with a small doublet refractor and broadband filters. So, quite a lot of star reducing was applied. Also, background dust surrounding the B150 is very faint and was tricky to process. Not sure if I managed to keep any sorts of real-life color in it, so better not to use it as a reference. Flying Bat, on the other hand, is relatively easy to capture with an H-alpha filter, even the more dimmer outer region, at least at an average Bortle 5 site.

Imaged for 11 different nights in September 2021, only first date for each filter specified in tech details.
