My worst nightmare is being stuck underground. I can walk into a cave and enjoy the geological features, but squeezing through tight spaces… no thanks!
This image is my first effort at this celestial cavern, taken over two nights this week. PA on the first night was not great, but much better on the second night with RMS ~0.5” not bad for a SA 2i mount. Nevertheless, I stuck at 3 min exposures, to try and pull something out of the darkness, using my Baader UHC-L booster filter which filters out LP and accentuates narrowband emissions.
I was surprised not to get a bit more depth with 5.5 hours integration, but expect longer exposures are needed. I might try binning the data to see if this helps. Sh2-155 lies in a rich starfield, and I had to work hard to reduce this; my deconvolution was too aggressive leading to some ringing artefacts. I will try and produce a better starmask. Other than that I’m reasonably happy with how this has turned out.
Lying 2400 LY away, Sh2-155 is at the edge of the Cepheus B cloud (part of the Cepheus
molecular cloud), and is
