Description

I started capturing this object back in April and May. I saw someone list this as a good beginner target. Maybe I tried to do to much, but this was anything but a beginner target for me. I have played with the processing on and off for the past 2 months and finally have something I think is worthy of posting, but I am still not all that happy with it, considering all the data I gathered. Some of this was captured from my drive way (bortle 5 skies) with a NB filter and some was captured at a dark site (bortle 2) with just a IR/Cut filter. The difficulty I have had with this is two fold. First capturing the outer nebulosity without blowing out the core and getting more detail without have an extremely noisy background. I didn't not do a good job with either of these. I ended up processing the main image and did a little processing on just the core and added it in the corner of the image.

If anyone has some tips on either the best way to capture or process this image, I am all ears. Thanks, Jim...

Title: Reprocessed image

Description: Funny sometimes you go back and look at images you took, that at the time you thought were good. But when you look at the image you see all this noise and ugly background. Well this is one of those, so since I feel I learned a lot about processing since I first took this image, and the skies are not cooperating, I decided to restack and reprocess. I definitely improved the background, reduced the noise, which I think help the nebula pop out more. I was still unable to get the detail on the nebula without blowing out the core. So I just processed them separately and like last time placed a small blown up image of the core in the corner. Jim
