Description

Here is the North America Nebula (NGC 7000/Caldwell 20) along with the Pelican Nebula (IC 5070). They are star-forming emission nebulae approximately 1,500 light-years from earth located in Cygnus. They are pretty big in apparent size from our perspective covering an area more than four times the size of a full moon! In the image, NGC 7000 is on the left and IC 5070 is on the right. The two nebulae are divided by a molecular cloud filled with dark dust.

We used a color camera with a dual narrowband filter to better capture the ionized hydrogen and oxygen, which will naturally come out mostly red. However, my wife has been advancing her skills in Pixinsight to be able to create this SHO-like image (she’s pretty awesome).
