Description

The well known Iris Nebula shot with my 25-year-old C11 on a 1000HPS, using a Atik 383l+ as sensor.

With this one, I wanted to actually see where the limits are of this setup are, in regard to Astrophotography..
and my limits in regard to processing these images .

I choose the rather short frame exposure of 120s to minimize any blooming or possible tracking issues.
(not that I am aware of any tracking issue of my mount)
Only the central Star shows blooming, and one other star is saturated.

While processing, I realized that that my last set of MasterFlats seam to be.. problematic.
Especially, the blue MasterFlat has proven to be unusable. So all Blue frame are calibrated without Flats.

Also, I am under the impression that Collimation needs to be checked. Something I've may  should have done before 'testing Limits' .

Concerning the processing..
  • I think the image is more noisy than it could be..

  • The Star Shapes is something I always struggle with and in part the result of suboptimal collimation, part of being an old SCT and part of something that I am not aware of.. i think

  • Also, I am not really satisfied with the center region.. just looks over precessed to me

Maybe I should simply gather more color data.. Especially blue data with decent flats.

Despite the 'whining' I think it is still a good Image for that kind of scope and one of the best I was able to produce
