Description

My last version a few days ago was shot in my "old" typical way with 22 4'/ISO800 frames.  The Owl looked like a green marble without a hint of the progenitor star.  I had a long discussion with my old boss from Steward Observatory and decided to shoot again without a filter and using the histogram to determine the exposure.  It turned out that I needed 30" subs to fit the histogram.  I shot 186 frames at 30"/ISO800.  I stacked them in DSS with no calibration frames.  When I sent the result over to PixInsight I was amazed that I had NO LIGHT POLLUTION.  As you can see, the nebula came out very nice.  I had heard of others using extremely short exposures but had no idea that it would replace the expensive "light pollution" filters.  Tonight I am imaging M108 running 60"/ISO800.  The first ten frames look awesome!  Dean Ketelsen, my old boss, explained how filters like L-eHance and L-eXtreme actually filtered out much of the light coming from stars.  I love to learn something new, especially when it costs less and is easier to do!!
