Description

These two nebulae are companions visible to the naked eye during the winter sky in the southern hemisphere, crossing the zenith as two gray spots with no detail. With low integration time, they reveal themselves as shiny gems. Even using a stock DSLR (unmodified), I managed to reveal a lot more reddish cloudiness than I've expected, along with the "paws" of the lagoon. In a Bortle 3/4 sky, it was also possible to capture a large amount of the reflection nebula that surrounds the trifid. The core does look blueish when compared to shots made with modded cameras, something that also happens in RGB images with monochrome. Happily, a big improvement since my last attempt at this region last year!
