Dual rig

Description

My humble dual rig which I use for many of my images.

N.B. This photo is about 18 months old and some kit has changed see (*)

Mount: HEQ5

William Optics ZS71 Apo with Atik314L in the back and manual filterwheel (*)

Skywatcher ED80 and Atik460EX in the back with Atik EFW2 filterwheel.

Home location is Bortle 8, so this is at one of my regular campsites I go to (Bortle 4) with the cables hooked up in the daytime.

(*) I now have an Atik428EX and 2nd Atik EFW2 in the back of the WOZS71.

I find this combo works well, because I have a bigger FOV in one scope than the other and ditto the cameras, which arranged as in the photo the FOV is almost a match, but by interchanging the scopes and cameras I can get varying FOV as a single scope and camera.

N.B. the WO Scope is mounted on top of the ED80 by way of a Skywatcher Guidescope mount. This works very well because the silly short foot on the WO scope makes it impossible to balance on it's own and the Alt/Az adjustment bolts on the Guidescope mount make it really easy to adjust the upper scope position so it is aligned with the lower scope (ED80). Removing the WO scope from the set up it is perfectly aligned next time I use the set up.

Then each time all I have to do is make sure I put the cameras on with the chip horizontally square and "Bob's your Uncle". Hope all the non UK people understand that expression which means - "and there you have it".
