Description

Ptolemy's Cluster, aka M7, is an open cluster of stars in the constellation of Scorpius. This Cluster contains about 80 stars within a field of view of 1.3° across (note that the field radius in this image is 1.8 degrees). At the cluster's estimated distance of 980 light years this corresponds to an actual diameter of 25 light years. In this image the bckground starfield dust lanes show up nicely.

This image was captured with a Nikon D5300 camera on a TS 71 SDQ Quad APO at f6,3 (fl 450mm). Note that the TS71SDQ supports larger format cameras with a 44mm imaging circle. Mount is the CGX.

This image consists of: 66 x 60 second subs. Shot at ISO400. Processed in DSS and Photoshop CC with Darks and Bias frames.

Note that I also have a previous image of M7 in my Gallery, taken with a TS80 APO reduced to f5,53 (fl 442mm) through an ASI1600MM-C, if you wish to compare the two. The image shown here (TS71 SDQ) provides a larger field radius.
